California Hospice Information
You may consider a hospice if you have 6 months or less to live. Hospice is care by family, friends, and
health professionals, made to enhance the life of the dying person (usually at home). Hospice care emphasizes comfort measures and counseling to
provide social, spiritual and physical support to the dying patient and his or her family.
Questions to ask:
- Is the program licensed by the state?
- Has the hospice met federal minimum
requirements for medicare?
- Examine the companies costs, and payment policies
- Does the organization have malpractice and liability insurance?
- Talk to other hospital or community professionals that haved worked with the agency
- Do you have to retain a caregiver to be admitted?
- Check with the Better Business Bureau or the State Attorney General’s office
- How are complaints or patient problems handled?
- Does the agency create a patient plan each
new customer?
- When calling into the hospice, do you get through or do you get voicemail and if so, how soon do they call you back?
